actors

The toughest business in the first world - in any economy. Aside from stars and consistently recurring dramatic or commercial role players, one is always out of work, always looking for work, never getting work, betting on that one gig to pay enough royalties to lessen their debt, and constantly standing in the bald light of rejection. And not resume rejection. Personal rejection. like, I reject your face rejection. The above hopefuls weren't auditioning for a show or a film, they were auditioning for a stock shoot, which is like applying for a job at the unemployment office in downtown Troy, New York (ie. your dream is in tatters). Rushing from their administrative day jobs, they somehow work up a confident look, shake hands (with people who care more about a lunch menu than the human being in front of them), hold a sheet of paper with a number written on it in front of them. Maybe the number is 18. Maybe it is 418. They stand in front of the camera and smile. Head shot. Profile. Full body. Great, thanks.

Yeah, that's it. Thanks again.
